email-validation.org checks whether an email address can receive mail before you send to it. Check one address below, upload a list of up to 1,000,000 rows, or call the API. Every result is deliverable, undeliverable, risky or unknown, with a reason and a recommended action, and unknown results are always free.

5 free checks a day without an account. Unknown results never cost a credit.

- 500/s API requests per second per account after your first purchase
- 15 s longest wait per check; slower checks are unknown and free
- 1,000,000 rows per bulk list (CSV, XLSX and TXT)

## One address, a whole list, or your own app

The same checks, credits and result format everywhere.

## From syntax to mailbox in one request

No email is ever sent to the address you check.

1. **Syntax**: Text that can never be an email address is rejected before anything else runs. These answers are free.
2. **Domain and mail records**: The domain's DNS and MX records show whether it can receive mail at all, and where that mail goes.
3. **Mailbox**: The receiving mail server is asked whether the mailbox exists. If it stays silent for 15 seconds, the result is unknown and free.
4. **Result**: You get a status, a reason and a recommended action, plus flags for free, role, disposable and catch-all addresses.

## Four statuses, each with a reason

Every status comes with an action you can apply directly to your list. The [statuses and reasons guide](https://email-validation.org/docs/statuses/) explains each one.

- Deliverable The mailbox exists and accepted our check, so mail sent to it should arrive. 1 credit · Send [Deliverable reasons](https://email-validation.org/docs/statuses/deliverable/)
- Undeliverable Mail sent to this address will not arrive, so it should come off your list. 1 credit · Remove [Undeliverable reasons](https://email-validation.org/docs/statuses/undeliverable/)
- Risky The address may accept mail, but sending to it can hurt your bounce rate or sender reputation. 1 credit · Send with caution [Risky reasons](https://email-validation.org/docs/statuses/risky/)
- Unknown We could not get a definite answer this time, so no credit is used and a later retry often succeeds. Free, no credit used · Retry later [Unknown reasons](https://email-validation.org/docs/statuses/unknown/)

## Validate an address with one request

Send the address with your API key in the Authorization header. Read the [quickstart](https://email-validation.org/docs/quickstart/) or the [API reference](https://email-validation.org/docs/api-reference/).

Request

```bash
curl https://api.email-validation.org/v1/validate \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $EV_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"email": "jane.doe@example.com"}'
## Frequently asked questions
**What is email-validation.org?**
A pay-as-you-go email validation service. You can check one address, upload a list of up to 1,000,000 rows (CSV, XLSX or TXT), or call the REST API. Each result says whether the address is deliverable, undeliverable, risky or unknown, with a reason and a recommended action. It is a commercial service run by Inbox Perfection LLC.
**How much does it cost?**
Credits come in one-time packs: 10,000 for $35 ($3.50 per 1,000), 25,000 for $49 ($1.96 per 1,000), 50,000 for $79 ($1.58 per 1,000) and 1,000,000 for $450 ($0.45 per 1,000). One credit checks one address. There is no subscription. Prices in USD, excluding tax. VAT or sales tax is added at checkout where applicable.
**Is there a free trial?**
Every new account gets 500 free credits with no card needed. The email checker page also gives 5 free single checks a day without an account.
**Am I charged for unknown results?**
No. Any result with the status unknown is free. That includes checks where the receiving mail server does not answer within 15 seconds. Requests that fail with an error, malformed addresses and test addresses are free too.
**Do credits expire?**
Yes. Every credit expires 24 months after it was added to your account, whether it was free, bonus or purchased. We always spend the credits that expire soonest first.
**Do you offer refunds?**
No. Credit purchases are final. Because unknown results and errors are never charged, you pay only for checks that return a definite result. This does not affect any statutory rights you may have.
